Background of the Study
Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) play a significant role in local economies, including in Bassa Local Government Area. Revenue collection from these businesses is essential for generating funds for local development and public services. However, SMEs often face challenges in efficiently managing and tracking their revenue. The implementation of an Accounting Information System (AIS) can help improve revenue collection by providing accurate data, automating processes, and ensuring compliance. This study will explore how AIS can enhance revenue collection for SMEs in Bassa LGA.
Statement of the Problem
In Bassa LGA, SMEs are often faced with challenges in effectively managing revenue, including inconsistent financial reporting, difficulty in tracking payments, and a lack of transparency in revenue generation. AIS could streamline these processes, but its adoption and usage in the local SME sector have been limited.
Aim and Objectives of the Study
Aim: To assess the role of Accounting Information Systems in enhancing revenue collection for SMEs in Bassa Local Government Area.
Objectives:
To evaluate the current revenue collection practices among SMEs in Bassa LGA.
To investigate the impact of AIS on improving revenue collection processes in these SMEs.
To identify the challenges SMEs face in adopting AIS and recommend strategies for overcoming these challenges.

Research Hypothesis
H₀: The implementation of AIS does not significantly enhance revenue collection for SMEs in Bassa Local Government Area.
H₀: The adoption of AIS does not significantly improve financial transparency in revenue collection by SMEs in Bassa.
Significance of the Study
This study will provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of AIS in improving revenue collection within the SME sector in Bassa LGA. It will also identify challenges to the adoption of AIS and offer recommendations for local government and SME owners to enhance revenue management.
Scope and Limitation of the Study
The study will focus on SMEs in Bassa LGA and their use of AIS for revenue collection. Limitations may include the reluctance of SME owners to adopt new technology or the challenge of collecting detailed financial data due to privacy concerns.
